NOLSW member Gibb Surette speaks for job creation

There is a monthly Jobs Vigil held in NYC by the Jobs for All Coalition. The vigil is held at 12:30 the first Friday of each month (when the unemployment statistics come out) in front of the office of Sen. Charles Schumer, on 3rd Ave. between 47th and 48th Streets (just because Schumer is the highest ranked federal official in the city and the presumptive conduit for sending a message to DC without going there).
The UAW Region 9A New York CAP Council has made a commitment to this vigil, and is also affiliated with US Labor Against the War (USLAW). NOLSW is represented on the USLAW national steering committee by Southeast Vice-President Jeff Segal. On March 4, 2011 Gibb Surette, Chairperson of the Legal Services Staff Association (New York) was invited to address the vigil as a representative of USLAW. In addition to talking about the effects of war on unemployment, Gibb included his and other NOLSW members’ experiences in dealing with the effects of unemployment in the course of their work at legal services. Attached are Gibb’s comments.
