Leadership Changes
Updated On: Aug 07, 2018

Congratulations to Gordon Deane, the new Assistant Director of UAW Region 9A.

It is with tremendous thanks and appreciation that the National Executive Board (NEB) congratulates Gordon Deane on his new position as the Assistant Director of UAW Region 9A.  The NEB thanks him for his over thirty years of inspired leadership and service to the members of NOLSW, UAW Local 2320. Gordon is a leader who started his service to the members of NOLSW as a rank and file member when he worked as a paralegal and shop steward at LSSA in NYC.  He joined the staff of NOLSW as a Regional Organizer in 1988, was elected to the position of Recording Secretary in 2001, and has served most recently as President of NOLSW since his election in 2007. We will miss Gordon’s friendship, his brilliant mind and his financial acumen on a day-to-day basis, but we will continue to benefit from his extraordinary leadership as the Assistant Director of Region 9A.

The National Executive Board appoints Pam Smith to succeed Gordon Deane as NOLSW President and Joe Veehoff to replace Pam Smith as Financial Secretary Treasurer.

It is with great excitement that the National Executive Board (NEB) announces that Pam Smith will succeed Gordon Deane as President of NOLSW, UAW Local 2320 (NOLSW) and Joe Veehoff will replace Pam as the Financial Secretary-Treasurer for NOLSW.

As Financial Secretary-Treasurer, Pam Smith succeeds Gordon as President under the NOLSW Bylaws.  Pam started her legal career as an staff attorney at the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau where she immediately became active in the union, serving as a bargaining team member and Unit Chair.  She went on to serve as a National Negotiator for the National Treasury Employees Union, but quickly came back to her legal services roots and NOLSW. She has served the members of NOLSW in the Northeast Region as a Regional Organizer for the past ten years and has served as the Financial Secretary-Treasurer for the past five years.  Pam’s passion for the labor movement, social justice, and creative solutions will make her a dynamic leader for NOLSW.

Joe Veehoff was appointed by unanimous support of the NEB to succeed Pam as the Financial Secretary-Treasurer.  Most of you know Joe as a NE Regional Organizer with a wicked sense of humor, a tireless work-ethic and a penchant for numbers and all things electronic.  You may also know that Joe worked for Northeast NJ Legal Services. You probably do not know that Joe worked as a Payroll Tax Accountant before he went to law school and is excited to use those skills again on behalf of our Local.  Joe brings and energy and enthusiasm to his new position that will serve the members of NOLSW well.

Pam and Joe are working together to ensure a smooth transition for the union and Gordon will still be available as a resource to NOLSW in his new position.  We are all excited to work together to serve this amazing union.
