Solidarity Overcomes Inequality

To: All NOLSW local unit officers and members
From: Gordon Deane, NOLSW President
Date: September 2014

This National Joint Council (NJC) will be held at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18-22, 2015. The NJC is the one time every 18 months that NOLSW members from around the country gather in one place to attend workshops, listen to speakers, discuss issues, solve problems, and HAVE FUN!

With mid-term elections looming, we face an uncertain future. Income inequality has reached proportions not seen since the era of the Robber Barons. In the wake of Citizens United, plutocrats are pouring billions of dollars into the political process, too often convincing working people to vote against their own economic interests. In state after state controlled by Republican legislatures and Governors, voting laws are being changed with deliberate intent to disenfranchise poor and minority voters.

At the same time, there is a growing awareness among many Americans that our country is going in the wrong direction. Around the country, activists are coming together to shine a spotlight on economic injustice and political corruption. Ordinary people, working together, are beginning to demand that politicians stop catering to the über-wealthy and corporations, and start representing the interests of working people. Please join us at the NJC--when our voices come together in support of a common cause—
