Massachusetts maintains level funding
Updated On: Apr 30, 2012

It started on March 10, 2011, when fourteen (14) Massachusetts legal service workers joined with many other UAW workers as part of the annual MA UAW Region 9A CAP lobby day.  Multiple teams were assigned appointments with state Representative and Senators.  Each team had members from the different UAW Locals. Included in the lobbying was level funding for legal services.   They lobbied on a number of issues besides legal service funding: funding for higher education, increasing minimum wage and an Act for Paid Sick Days. Armed with a fact sheet and talking points on the need for legal service level funding, each state Representative and Senator’s office was visited.

Then again in May, the UAW Region 9A Director, the UAW CAP members, NOLSW legal service workers and employers did a statewide letter writing campaign to their Senators and Representatives urging level funding for legal services.  Thanks to everyone’s efforts, Massachusetts legal services was level funded.
